Subject Resources:Textbook: Unit 1 / Parts 1-3

As noted previously, the textbook for this semester is English for Medicine: Part 2 by our very own Prof Chaudrey Zahid Javid. Unfortunately the book is currently not finished yet as a decision was made to make some changes to it based on feedback we received from students about it last semester.

As a result, for the next couple of weeks, I will be posting pdf versions of the sections of the Chapters to be covered here on the blog. Copies will also be available in your various photo copy sections before class hopefully [guys, the photocopy section already has copies]. The Mid-Term Exam:Last Words

I am still having phone calls about the exam in which people are asking about things that I thought I had covered clearly in class.

Just so that all is clear, the following points should cover all questions:

1. The exam is on Tuesday morning at 8:30 and will last 60 minutes.

2. There will be 30 questions which will consist of:
- 5 'what do these words refer to' questions based on the passage;

- 5 'complete these sentences' questions with words / expressions drawn from the passage;

- 5 'multiple choice' questions based on the passage;

- 5 'true/false' questions based on the passage;

- 5 'true/false' questions related to the listening; &

- 5 'correct these sentences' questions drawn from the first three chapters of the textbook.
3. The reading and listening will focus on the mouth.

Find below links to the stmep.blogspot.com posts related to: the mid-term sample paper based on chapter 1; the original post on the topic of the exam;

Subject Resources:Mid-Term Exam Update

I have been having some emails regarding the subject of the exam and I am pleased to announce that I have decided that the topic that will be covered by the exam will be - as might be indicated by the picture to the left - the mouth. As a result the text and the listening for the exam will focus on the mouth as will the majority of the questions. As always, if you have any questions please phone or send an email. It would appear that at least some of you are able to leave messages on the blog so remember that that is always an option. Please remember if you send an email [and it is not abusive] to write your name and let me know which class you are in.

p.s. Today's message comes from Abha - a very nice city indeed.

Subject Resources:Sample Mid-Term Exam

Find below a link to a copy of a Sample Mid-Term Exam. The Sample Exam is based on Unit 1 [ie. The Skin] and the answers can be found in the Powerpoint for that Unit. The exam will consist of 30 questions and you will be given 60 minutes to do it. The listening will be played twice only.

Please note that the text and listening for the real Mid-Term exam will not come from the textbook. It will instead come from another source and be on a topic [ie. [part of the body] not covered in class. I will let you know what part of the body will be covered in the exam as soon as I decide which part it will be.

Subject Resources:Textbook: English for Medicine

.
Designed specifically for students in the School of Medicine, Taif University by Professor Choudhary Zahid Javid of the Department of Foreign Languages,the textbook fotthis subject is English For Medicine [Part 1].

As the Preface of the book notes, the ...
... textbook is a logical outcome of a comprehensive research project carried out at College of Medicine and Medical Sciences (CMMS) by the author of this textbook during 2008 that determined the linguistic and non-linguistic needs, the academic level and the preferred learning styles of the students at CMMS.
